Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself. – Oscar de la Renta
A rare fashion note. I’m more interested in gym fashion, but in a stroke of crazed girliness, I typically tune into an awards show or two just to ogle the dresses.
His career spanned more than 50 years and his designs graced Hollywood and political royalty alike.
Millennials may know his designs from the yearly onslaught of awards season fashion porn, but Oscar de la Renta also dressed some lower key, but just as important moments in women’s fashion; Hillary Clintons 1997 gold inauguration dress – with matching cape, Laura Bush’s 2005 ice-blue v-neck inauguration dress, Huma Abedin’s 2010 Indian-inspired wedding dress (in a less inspiring wedding to Anthony Weiner), and most recently he designed Amal Clooney’s lacy wedding dress.
Below are my favorites in recent history. I have a thing for strapless and sweetheart necklines. RIP.
