Post workout #MOOD now that I’m back to regular training. Regular means almost daily with a well-planned workout routine. Regular does not mean I’ve regained my strength. There are neuromuscular and vasomotor issues to juggle and I’m struggling, but pushing through struggle is my strong suit! Next week stitches come out and I’m back in the pool. Having spine surgery through the front of my neck sounds like “a lot” but it was really just a month of not being able to lift weights. Needing the surgeries for a while - and being told I was imagining the pain - was the hard and frustrating part. After the surgeries and rehab I was able to look to the right again, without my arm going limp, and look straight forward and up, even while swimming. I had total disk replacement (arthroscopy) without fusion (no way I am giving up range of motion, I want to lock eyes with the avalanche that kills me), facet removals for nerve decompression and there’s something like 19 pieces of metal and plastic in there. You have to sustain quite a blow to the head to tear up your neck, jaw and bust your eye. You have to have a pretty shitty team to not scan you immediately. You have to be pretty out of it to be the most assertive person in the world yet not say, “why the eff aren’t you helping me?” right away. It was what it was and I got a new team and I got it fixed. Thanks @nyulangone. I just don’t recommend taking the long road to recovery, though it’s paved with all the things that make one a hard-ass-MF. The spine surgery was my hope of having something to show for this expensive mess but it’s hardly even visible now! Oh well. Knock me down, you know what I’ll do... #braininjuryawareness

It’s #worldsleepday - I thought I’d post something about how my head injuries did and still do effect my #sleep, despite my being the “#sleephygiene fairy.” It is still #braininjuryawarenessmonth after all. I thought I’d go more into how #autonomicdysfunction causes adrenaline to randomly fire off in my body at night, making my heart race unexpectedly and keeping me up. I could talk about how much work and research and product testing I’ve put into making sure I get enough sleep so I can give my best during the day.... But instead, I share this: We had a solid chance to get up to Denali high camp, took it, and hardly slept at all - two of us in one sleeping bag - before our successful summit push. The best “lack of” sleep story I know! #fbf #memories #wellsleepwhenweredead
